This fellow. He’s new around here, still puff-headed in his youth. He’s stolen sandwiches from the kids, dismembered unfortunate carrion in our front yard, and watches the kids with a beady eye whenever he thinks they might have food. Mimi responds by drawling, yelling, and screaming at him in turn. Caw! Shoo! Perfidious.

I just saw his little beak sticking out. We’ve had squirrels in our garden (last year) who would steal our red tomatoes. They wouldn’t touch the green ones but wait until the red ones were ripe and then get them. We tried all sorts of tricks to keep them out and finally had to just net the whole thing which didn’t work until we reinforced it at the bottom to keep them from finding a way under–beasties!
Ha, that’s all I saw too! His little, always-open, beak…watching the kids lunch.
