Purple Monster Smoothie

20111004-113800.jpg

Managed to put almost all the rainbow colors in here. I thought about adding a tomato to get our red, but took pity on the kids 🙂

6 oz peach yogurt
1/2 cup concord grapes
1/4 banana
1/2 cup oatmeal
3 Tbsp. Vanilla pudding powder
1 cup frozen blueberries
1 kiwi, peeled
1 Bosc pear, halved and cores
Water to thin down

Strawberry Creme Smoothie

20110901-091524.jpg

Because 9 pm is no time for health food.

10 frozen strawberries
1/2 cup frozen cherries
1/2 cup yogurt with enough liquid added to make 2 cups
3 tablespoons instant vanilla pudding powder

Blend away! I used water for this batch, and liked how the pudding powder thickened it. But then, I’m partial to instant vanilla pudding. I meant to add powdered milk, and saw the pudding right there next to it… It was serendipity, and too tempting to ignore. This made a super, late-night, sweet treat for the husband and I.

Strawberry Orange Banana Smoothie

A current lack of spinach and kale in the fridge led to this totally kid-friendly Smoothie. I think next time I’d throw in a handful of oatmeal. It’s also fantastic with a cup or two of diced mangoes or peaches.

10 large frozen strawberries
10 ice cubes
1 banana
1 small orange or Clementine (try to peel off most of the pith and the hard white core)
1 cup vanilla yogurt
2 tablespoons sugar

Put everything in the blender and add enough water to cover all but an inch or two of the ingredients. You could substitute any dairy or non- dairy milk as well. Blend well.

*I make my yogurt in quart jars, and it’s difficult to get the last cup of yogurt out of the jar. I normally pour in some skim milk and shake and stir till the yogurt and milk are mixed. If I’m going to drink it, I might add a spoonful of jam as well. Today I used it to make my smoothie, with about half left over for a snack or another smoothie.
